 Dear Friends and Neighbors,
October 6-10 in National Fire Prevention Week. The Lander Volunteer Fire Department will be kicking off their Annual Booster Drive at this time. If you would like to make a donation to our department, you may do so by dropping it off at Lander City Hall or by mailing it to the above address. The funds are used to help support your fire department. We will be having an “Open House” at the fire station on Thursday, October 9th starting at 7:00 PM. The fire station is located at 4th & Garfield.
We will have several different events by agencies (rural fire, forest service, ambulance, Fremont County HAZMAT, etc.) on hand to show what type of services they provide. We are also hoping for Wyoming Life Flight’s impressive parking lot landing again this year. All of which to show you the equipment in use along with answering any questions you may have. Information will also be available for people who might be interested in joining a volunteer organization.
During this week volunteer firemen will be visiting local schools, preschools and daycares teaching kids the importance of fire safety. The theme for Fire Prevention this year is “Prevent Home Fires.” To help with this theme on Wednesday, Oct 8th, the Lander Volunteer Fire Department will be delivering orders for Domino’s Pizza and with your permission firefighters will test your smoke detectors and make sure they are in proper working order.
In conjunction with Fire Prevention Week, we recommend the following for a safer home and business:
1. Test your smoke detectors at least once a month 2. Change batteries in detectors with daylight savings time (April & October) 3. Have your furnace or wood stoves checked and cleaned 4. Inspect your fire extinguisher, make sure it is operable 5. Post “911” number by phone 6. Practice home and business exit drills
Again, THANK YOU for your past support and I hope to see you during our open house.
Sincerely,
Dave Van Fleet Fire Chief, Lander Vol. Fire Dept.
