The Lander Vol. Fire Dept. held it's first Kids Club Meeting on Wednesday September 10, 2008 at the fire hall. There were three different stations for the kids to partake, cooking, crafts and firemen. The kitchen was filled with brownies, blueberry muffins and banana bread. The crafts were little foam surfboards and spiders to help bring in fall. Firemen downstairs demenstrated putting on their bunkers, loaded up Engine 7 and showed the kids how their dad's got ready for fire calls. Each station had thirty minutes and kids rotated from one to the other.
The kids came up with and voted on a name for their group. They will be affectionately known as the "LVFD Fire Flies".
The group goal is try and raise money to purchase new playground equipment for the drill field. This area is being used more frequently for fire deparment families and definately in need of improvement.
The baked goods the kids made are for sale at City Hall.
